Weißenfels (AP) - The basketball players from Syntainics MBC could not make up any ground in the fight to stay in the league.

The Weißenfelser lost on Saturday at home against the direct competitor Basketball Löwen Braunschweig with 91:93 (47:40) and thus still have only four points ahead of the first relegation place currently occupied by the Giessen.

Aleksandar Marelja's attempt from close range did not land in the Braunschweig basket at the last second.

Gavin Schilling (20), Karim Jallow (19) and Arnas Velicka (18) stood out from a closed guest team.

Quinton Hooker (27) and Michal Michalak (25) scored the most points for the Central Germans.

After a balanced start, the home side set themselves apart at the beginning of the second quarter with a 9-1 run from 26:23 (10th) to 35:24 (13th) and took advantage of this cushion until the break.

But after the break, the Weißenfels broke in and went into the last ten minutes with a 62:70 deficit.

At 77:88 (37th), the seventh success of the season for the MBC was finally out of reach.

The rebellion against the impending defeat came too late.
