Hamburg (dpa) - At the Hamburg State Opera, a premiere without an audience took place for the first time on Sunday evening: The extremely successful interpretation of Jules Massenet's "Manon" was broadcast on the radio and as a live stream.
The production was clearly shaped by the corona-related precautionary measures.
Even in the most passionate moments, the actors kept their distance from one another.
It is thanks to the inventiveness of the director David Bösch and the lively play of the actors that the staging never seemed static.
Bösch had transferred the material, which is based on a novel from the first half of the 18th century, to a present time that was not located in any more detail.
His Manon is a self-determined young woman.
The young soprano Elsa Dreisig in the title role was the focus of an outstanding singing ensemble.
The choir of the Hamburg State Opera sang from the boxes;
Coordination difficulties were inevitable.
Excellent is the Philharmonic State Orchestra, which, under the direction of Sébastien Rouland, played a version that was much thinner than the original.
