Merzig (dpa / lrs) - The police arrested a man in Croatia who was wanted by arrest warrant because of numerous suspected break-ins in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The 43-year-old is said to be responsible for 78 break-ins in Saarland, 51 in Luxembourg and 21 acts in Rhineland-Palatinate, the police said on Tuesday.

In addition, there are indications that he could be responsible for a series of burglaries in Merzig in the Merzig-Wadern district.

The man had been handed over to the German authorities and was now in custody.

An act from the series of burglaries in October this year in the Merzig area has already been resolved and can be attributed to the 43-year-old.

However, the man is said to have left traces at a total of 58 crime scenes.

The 43-year-old is said to belong to a five-man gang, to which the investigators were able to prove the 150 break-ins in Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Luxembourg since 2017.

The group was also active in France and Austria.

Four members of the gang have already been sentenced to long prison terms.
