Uncontrollable jealousy and too much alcohol.
On Wednesday, a 38-year-old man was sentenced to thirty months in prison, including 18 months closed, before the criminal court for having set fire to his ex-partner's house in La Valla-en-Gier, in the Loire.
On November 5, the man lost control when he learned that his best friend was now in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend, from whom he had been separated for a few months.
The defendant, very alcoholic and after multiple messages and threatening calls, went to the forties in the early morning, ready to do battle with his former friend, recalls

But the woman was alone at home.
An argument then broke out, pushing the ex-girlfriend to flee her house to find refuge in a nearby restaurant.
"I was overwhelmed by grief"
The man then climbed onto the roof of the building, spilled gasoline and set it on fire.
In the fire, the roof was badly damaged as was the interior of the house.
When they arrived on the scene, the gendarmes quickly understood that it was an arson and were quick to arrest the ex-companion, the main suspect.
At the bar, the latter admitted the facts.
"I was overwhelmed by grief (...) My dearest desire and to repair the damage that I have caused", he assured in court, according to the regional daily.
His conviction was supplemented by a ban on contact with the victim, an obligation to take care of himself, to work, and to compensate the victim.
