Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Parents in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania must register their children in advance for childcare in day-care centers against the background of the extended lockdown from next week.

"However, we ask all parents to only take advantage of this offer if there is no other way of working and there is no possibility of looking after their children at home," said Social Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) on Wednesday in a message published in Schwerin.

This rule therefore applies from the coming Monday to January 31st.

Parents can obtain the form from the Ministry of Social Affairs or the day care center.

This form can then be used to specify the days on which parents cannot look after their children at home.

Professional reasons or family / other reasons can be ticked as possible options.

According to a spokesman, there is no need to provide evidence that parents have so-called systemically relevant professions, such as in hospitals.

The minister emphasized that there is further support for looking after the children at home.

"The federal government has promised to grant child sickness benefit in 2021 for ten additional days per parent and 20 additional days for single parents."

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had previously kept daycare centers open, but always appealed to leave the children at home if possible.

According to the ministry, there should still not be any restriction in the care time.
