Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The interest in small gun licenses, for example for alarm pistols or irritant gas weapons, is decreasing in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Last year the authorities issued 1,017 permits for such weapons.

In the record year of 2016 there were around 3,000. That emerges from the response of the state government to a small request from the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament.

The number has been falling almost continuously since 2016.

Around 1,500 small gun licenses were issued in 2017, 1,098 in 2018, and a little more in the following year with 1,233.

However, the level was significantly lower before 2016: According to the information, a good 300 small gun licenses were issued in 2015, in previous years the numbers were even lower.

The group leader of the AfD, Nikolaus Kramer, made a connection with the arrival of refugees in 2015/16 on Tuesday and described the higher numbers from 2016 as worrying.

They showed that many citizens have lost confidence in the state order.

A total of 11,502 small gun licenses reported in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the end of last year.
