A goal from Houssem Aouar allowed Lyon to snatch a narrow but precious success on his home ground against Rennes (1-0), Wednesday, in the match of the 28th day of Ligue 1 which allows him to keep his distance on the podium by compared to Monaco (4th) which plays later in the evening, in Strasbourg.

Entered into play in the 58th minute in place of Bruno Guimaraes, who replaced Paqueta suspended after his exclusion in Marseille, and whose performance was rather lackluster, Aouar gave OL a decisive advantage by benefiting from a good job from Memphis Depay (74).

He tore himself away to get the ball in the feet of Nayef Aguerd and serve his partner who scored his fifth league goal this season, his sixth overall.

It is also the eighth assist for the Dutchman.

Shortly after, Aouar could have added a second goal but his attempt was stopped by goalkeeper Alfred Gomis (76).

Until then, the Lyonnais had produced a sluggish game, without idea with a single real opportunity signed Memphis Depay but his shot, the first on target for Lyon, was rejected by Gomis (45 + 1).

- 6th loss in a row for Rennes -

Rudi Garcia had made four changes compared to the match against OM and we cannot say that these changes were very positive, both for the team and for the entrants.

There was the one suffered by Paqueta, due to the suspension of the Brazilian, excluded from the Vélodrome and replaced by Bruno Guimaraes.

But also those of Houssem Aouar, Maxwel Cornet and Tino Kadewere to which were preferred Maxence Caqueret, Mattia De Sciglio and Islam Slimani.

OL developed a game without rhythm before half-time without any dangerous action except that of Memphis just before half-time.

The second half was much more interesting and more rhythmic, at the same time as Rennes clearly declined in intensity.

Memphis (47, 81), Karl Toko Ekambi (63, 72) were also threatening while a goal was refused precisely for offside to Tino Kadewere (68), as evidence of the vigorous reaction of OL.

For their part, the Rennes, pending the formalization of the appointment as coach of Bruno Genesio, the former coach of OL (December 2015-2019) to replace Julien Stephan who resigned, continue a series of six defeats of rank in all competitions.

Fairly not dangerous against Lyon despite the pressure they exerted at the end of the match, they occupy tenth place in the standings, far from their ambitions displayed at the start of the season.
