Halle (dpa / sa) - The lockdowns in 2020 cost the museums of the Saxony-Anhalt Culture Foundation a considerable amount of guests.

After 260,200 visitors in 2019, 152,400 were counted last year, the foundation announced on Wednesday in Halle.

Falkenstein Castle, Michaelstein Monastery and Neuchâtel Castle are also part of the cultural foundation, as is the Moritzburg Halle Art Museum, Halberstadt Cathedral Treasury and the Magdeburg Cathedral Museum.

All in all, the foundation is responsible for 18 cathedrals, palaces and fortresses.

«While the real exhibition rooms are orphaned, the virtual ones are gaining life.

Last year gave a big boost to digitization, ”explained General Director Christian Philipsen.

This applies to the inventory and digitization of own objects, but also to digital mediation offers.

The Moritzburg Art Museum, the Lyonel Feininger Gallery in Quedlinburg and the Halberstadt Cathedral Treasure offer virtual 360-degree tours.

Neuchâtel Castle in Freyburg, Falkenstein Castle and Michaelstein Monastery have also opened the digital doors wide.

From March, virtual tours should also be bookable in the Moritzburg Art Museum.
