Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - In the process of the violent death of the five-year-old Fabio from Mönchengladbach, the public prosecutor has demanded a life sentence for the accused friend of the mother.

The cruelty and duration of the mistreatment should be rated like murder, the public prosecutor said on Tuesday in their plea before the Mönchengladbach regional court.

The 23-year-old is on trial for manslaughter.

The boy's mother, who is also 23 years old, should receive seven years' imprisonment for manslaughter by failure, the prosecution requested.

Fabio was found fatally injured in his mother's apartment on April 21 last year.

Among other things, the child had a craniocerebral trauma, an open chin injury and severe abdominal injuries from which he died in the apartment.

Another child, now three years old, came into the custody of the youth welfare office when the defendant was arrested.

The defendant had testified for the first time immediately before the pleading.

In a statement read by his defense attorney, he denied ever mistreating Fabio and his brother.

He blamed the children's mother for the injuries.

The 23-year-old had incriminated her boyfriend on the previous day of the trial.

The process has been going on for four months.
