The administrative court of Montpellier (Hérault) on Monday suspended the orders of the mayor of Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) authorizing the opening of four municipal museums.

It was the prefecture that seized the summary judge, after the decision of the mayor of the Catalan capital, Louis Aliot (RN), who had braved the closure of cultural places due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

In its order, the court points to the decree of the Prime Minister, which orders the closure to the public of cultural places to fight against the spread of Covid-19.

For Louis Aliot, the closure of cultural places "is no longer justified"

"The circumstances invoked by the municipality, drawn from the establishment of particularly strict health protocols, thus greatly reducing the risk of transmission of the virus in these establishments or of a favorable development in the health context, if they are likely to call into question the 'assessment made by the Prime Minister on the closure of this type of establishment, does not allow a mayor to proceed himself to this opening ”, indicates the judge of summary proceedings.

This Monday morning, to defend his decision, Louis Aliot was based on "the improvement of the figures and the health situation", stressing that the Occitanie region, the department of Pyrénées-Orientales and Perpignan were "not part of the areas the most contaminated ”.

In this context, according to him, "the ban on opening cultural places is no longer justified" and "the local authorities and especially the town hall of Perpignan are able to assess what is dangerous and what is not. is not ".
