The Saudi-Emirati coalition announced the completion of the necessary arrangements in Yemen to implement the mechanism to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, and said that the announcement of the government will take place as soon as the implementation of the military part is completed within a week.
Private Yemeni sources told Al-Jazeera that a military committee that includes Saudi officers arrived in the city of Shakra in Abyan Governorate, in southern Yemen, to oversee the implementation of the military part of the Riyadh Agreement signed between the Yemeni government and the UAE-backed Transitional Council.
The agreement was signed in November 2019, and provides for power-sharing in southern Yemen, but its provisions have not been implemented.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted a responsible source in the coalition, that "it was agreed to form the Yemeni government of 24 ministers, including the ministers of the Southern Transitional Council and various Yemeni political components."
He added that the formed government will be announced "as soon as the implementation of the military part is completed within a week," noting that this includes "separating the military forces in Abyan and moving them to the fronts and from the capital, Aden, outside the governorate."
He explained that military observers from the coalition will supervise "starting today, Thursday" the redeployment of forces, while sources loyal to the government spoke of "limited clashes" between the two parties in Abyan.
It is noteworthy that in late July, the Southern Transitional Council announced the abandonment of the Autonomous Administration in the south and pledged to implement the power-sharing agreement with the government.
