Leipzig (dpa) - The prospect of European Cup games is the reason for handball national player Philipp Weber's move in the summer from SC DHfK Leipzig to SC Magdeburg.

That said the 28-year-old of the «Leipziger Volkszeitung» and the Magdeburg «Volksstimme» (both Thursday).

“In the national team, I have to compete with the best internationally.

For that I need more international experience and that's why I risked this step, ”said Weber.

It was not a decision against Leipzig, but in favor of Magdeburg and new sporting experiences, which also included national coach Alfred Gislason.

“I asked his advice.

In our conversation it was also a clear topic to play more internationally, to compete with the best and to have this experience.

I'm happy with his advice, but it wasn't decisive, ”said Weber.
