Mainz / Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) - The police in Rhineland-Palatinate initially only registered a few violations of corona rules on Sunday.

Numerous people would have visited parks and other popular places in Trier, Kaiserslautern or Koblenz in good weather.

Violations of the corona rules only had to be punished to a small extent, as the police announced by late Sunday afternoon.

"We did register a high number of people, but generally people behaved in a corona-compliant manner," said a police spokesman in Koblenz.

In Mainz, where the police warned to comply with the corona rules last weekend, there were no special incidents until Sunday afternoon, according to a spokesman.

Also on Saturday there were no major problems with a view to the existing guidelines for infection protection.

Due to violations of the Corona rules in spring-like weather last weekend, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior announced a nationwide Corona control day for Sunday.

More than 100 additional emergency services should, among other things, check the distance requirement and the wearing of medical masks.

The focus is accordingly on popular excursion and local recreation destinations.

According to the police, the controls should not end until Sunday evening.
