Hamburg (AP) - Hamburger SV cannot win against its feared opponent Holstein Kiel and missed important points in the race for promotion to the Bundesliga.

The superior Hanseatic League parted with the Kielers 1: 1 (1: 1) in the Volksparkstadion on Monday evening and are only on the relegation rank with 43 points.

League leader VfL Bochum (48) is five points away, the second Holstein Kiel three points.

The Kielers took the lead through Jae-Sung Lee (8th minute), Simon Terodde (23rd) equalized with his 20th goal of the season.

For Hamburg it is the fifth winless game in a row.

In the second half of the season only got seven points in seven games.

HSV has to be careful that his trend does not cost him promotion as in the two previous years.

Even if coach Daniel Thioune does not want to see Kiel as a feared opponent, they have not yet managed to win in six second division duels (2 defeats, 4 draws).

"I don't know where the fear should come from," said the coach.

The top game of the 2nd Bundesliga kept what it promised: nice combinations, classy goal area scenes, surprising actions.

The Kielers had the better start.

South Korean Jae-Sung Lee headed a corner from Jannik Dehm, HSV defender Jan Gyamarah came too late.

The HSV shook itself briefly and then turned up.

Aaron Hunt failed because of Kiel's goalkeeper Ioannis Gelios (17th), Josha Vagnoman headed the ball against the post from three meters (32nd) and had another chance to head the ball (41st).

The equalization after a double one-two between Bakery Jatta and Terodde was worth seeing.

The Kiel did not have the big chances.

Only Fin Bartels almost brought KSV Holstein into the lead on a counterattack (42nd), but HSV goalkeeper Sven Ulreich parried.

Five days after moving into the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, the Schleswig-Holsteiners relied on a safe defense, on counterattacks and standards and left HSV more play.

After the break, the Hamburg team continued as they had stopped: with a courageous offensive, driven by the strong Sonny Kittel.

The number of chances grew (Terodde, Kittel, Dudziak), but Gelios in the Kiel box was always spot on.

Conclusion: HSV should have won after chances.
