When it comes to writing a motivational email for an application, it is best to read carefully!

The two advantages of applying electronically for a job are saving time and money.

But it often happens that the simplicity of this mailing pushes the candidates to commit imprudence in matters of presentation.

This is particularly the case with the cover letter.

It is possible to write this document on any word processing software, then to insert it as an attachment to the e-mail, along with his

curriculum vitae

.

In this case, the letter of application does not contain any particular specificity compared to the one you would send by mail.

On the other hand, some choose to integrate it directly into the body of the email.

We must therefore be extra careful.

The whole difficulty lies in mixing the formal language that every job seeker must use to address a potential employer, with the usual spontaneity and familiarity of electronic mail.

A question of dosage

Before you get down to writing this text, first remember that most recruiters use mailboxes that allow you to view the start of emails.

With this in mind, it is therefore imperative to choose your words carefully.

Do not waste time repeating the subject of your e-mail, but prefer a direct line highlighting your experience or your qualification, such as: "Recently graduated in ..." or "After two years as ...".

With the same objective, your message must contain certain keywords that will make sense for the recruiter and which are most often found in the job advertisement or on the company's website.

Rather than weighing down your text with one-size-fits-all formulas, focus on your top recent successes and results, and how you get there.

All in a spirit of synthesis.

A motivational email should be efficient and concise: ideally it should only be about fifteen lines, unlike a traditional letter which usually runs over one page.

In order to elicit a response, you can conclude this message by suggesting that your recipient meet you for an interview.

Moreover, if the classic expressions of politeness seem more attached to the paper format, it is better to be too formal than casual.

Opt for a sober but respectful twist.

Finally, below your signature, remember to add all your contact details, even if they are already on your CV.

The key elements

  • Your address: it is out of the question to send a letter of application from an e-mail address with a nickname reserved for private use.

On the contrary, if you have an associative or professional group e-mail recognizable by the employer, do not hesitate.

  • The subject of the message: determining, it can condition a click to the recycle bin or reading.

Adapt it to the situation: the reference of the advertisement, the job title sought by a recruitment firm, your expertise in the case of an unsolicited application or the name of your contact if you are recommended.

  • Proofreading: always write your message in "draft" and track down spelling errors before indicating the name of your recipient and sending your e-mail.
