Director Guy Ritchie -

Matrix Media / Starface

New project for Guy Ritchie.

The British director has signed with Paramount to write and direct

Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare

, a war film based on the eponymous book by Damien Lewis.

The story of the film is set in 1939, when British forces are defeated by Germany on the continent.

Winston Churchill then decides to change his strategy: stop fighting like "gentlemen", and create a unit of elite soldiers who will strike behind enemy lines.

This unit will fight for the duration of the Second World War and will allow the United Kingdom to achieve decisive victories.

According to Deadline, the film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, specialist in action films (

Top Gun

,

The Beverly Hills Cop

,

Pirates of the Caribbean

).

Boxes in series

Guy Ritchie comes out of a period where he has had successes.

After the live-action remake of

Aladdin

, in 2019, which generated $ 1 billion in box office profits, then

The Gentlemen

, which even with a less impressive box office of $ 115 million is considered a success due to his modest budget of 22 million, Madonna's ex-husband will be able to bring his dark and creaky humor into a genre he has not yet explored, the war film.

Paramount is betting a lot on this project.

The studio won the rights to Damien Lewis's book in 2015 and waited to find not only the right screenplay but also the right director to kick off production.

No release date has yet been put forward, Guy Ritchie having to finish

Five Eyes first

, with Jason Statham and Josh Hartnett.
