Two hundred and fifteen NGOs call on the IMF to approve a support plan of 3 trillion dollars to help poor countries in this period of pandemic.
Non-governmental organizations urge G20 members to support this funding that would come from the IMF's new special drawing rights, the SDRs.
It is a financial instrument that countries convert into money.
This initiative should be debated at the meeting of the major funders, but the amount mentioned is much less, it is 500 billion dollars.
Such an allocation, if approved, would, for example, enable
sub-Saharan Africa
to benefit from around $ 18 billion in liquidity to cover its health needs.
For her part, the leader of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva deplores the inequality in terms of vaccination because it will worsen the lot of the poorest countries.
The Managing Director of the Monetary Fund also urges the members of the G20 to provide particular support to the most vulnerable countries, for example by reducing their debt.
