Kiel (AP) - Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther has congratulated second division football team Holstein Kiel on making it into the semi-finals of the DFB Cup.

"Today the Kiel team has achieved something truly historic," said the CDU politician on Wednesday evening.

For the first time in their club's history, the Kielers are in the round of the best four.

The second division won his quarter-final match 3-0 (2-0) at Rot-Weiss Essen from the regional league on Wednesday evening.

"Once again the storks have impressively shown what can be achieved with courage and will," said Günther.

He warmly congratulates the storks, the trainer Ole Werner and everyone involved in this success for this outstanding achievement.

"Schleswig-Holstein is proud of this team."
