By the end of last month, 75% of the planned amount to be brought in was shipped from various parts of Fukushima Prefecture to the interim storage facility that stores soil contaminated with radioactive materials due to the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

On the other hand, the place and method of final disposal have not been discussed, and issues remain.

It is estimated that the amount of waste such as soil and vegetation generated by the decontamination project in Fukushima Prefecture will be approximately 14 million cubic meters, which is equivalent to 11 cups of the Tokyo Dome, excluding the difficult-to-return areas around the nuclear power plant. ..

These are to be transported to the interim storage facility constructed around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, and according to the Ministry of the Environment, 10.48 million cubic meters, which is 75% of the planned amount, had been delivered by the end of last month.

The Ministry of the Environment says that the rest of the delivery will be almost completed by March next year, and the transportation work from various parts of the prefecture, which started six years ago in March 2015, is in the final stages.

On the other hand, the law stipulates that after storage in an interim storage facility, final disposal outside Fukushima Prefecture by 2045, but discussions on the location and method of final disposal have hardly progressed.

In order to reduce the amount of final disposal, the Ministry of the Environment plans to recycle soil whose pollution level has fallen below a certain standard for public works projects, etc., and will hold dialogue meetings all over the country from next year, such as the need for reclaiming. I'm going to explain.

7 prefectures other than Fukushima Contaminated soil, etc. 330,000 cubic meters

Decontamination was also carried out in seven prefectures other than Fukushima prefecture, Iwate, Miyagi, Tochigi, Gunma, Ibaraki, Chiba, and Saitama. ..

As of March last year, it is stored in about 29,000 places such as residential land and agricultural land, and in these seven prefectures, consolidation is not progressing like Fukushima, which has an interim storage facility.

Also, the disposal method has not been decided.

The Ministry of the Environment, which decides the disposal method, is proceeding with studies such as conducting a demonstration project to investigate the impact of landfill disposal in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture and Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture.

In addition, more than 27,000 tons of sewage sludge and rice straw contaminated with radioactive substances are generated in nine prefectures other than Fukushima prefecture, and they are also being stored in various places.
