  • The second curfew came into effect Tuesday at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.

  • Lille police officers carried out checks in several neighborhoods.

  • The order had been given by the ministry to issue a ticket from the first evening.

The time has passed for pedagogy.

The night from Tuesday to Wednesday marked the start of the second national curfew decreed to fight the coronavirus epidemic.

In the Lille metropolis, the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) had made a point of marking the occasion by organizing numerous checks, in particular in several districts of Lille.

And this time, the instruction was systematic verbalization.

We must believe that the people of Lille had not forgotten that a curfew came into effect Tuesday evening, from 8 p.m.

If the streets of Lille were still busy when shops closed, around 7 p.m., they almost instantly emptied before the fateful hour.

Only a few latecomers on foot or by car still appearing in the city center.

"This will not prevent us from showing discernment"

The police had arranged to meet in large numbers at 8 p.m., near the Lille-Flandres station, just to conduct random checks of certificates.

“The ministry's instruction is to issue a ticket this evening,” explains the commissioner in charge of the device.

This will not prevent us from exercising judgment, ”he adds.

The rules of tolerance are however not written, it will be by feeling, "for foreign people who would not be aware of the curfew for example", notes the police officer.

On the side of the boss of the Lille police, Jean-François Papineau, the question is clearer: “There will be no awareness because the message was very clear.

A huge part of the population is organized to respect this curfew.

These people would not understand that others continue to walk, ”he says before running off in pursuit of a car emanating the smell of cannabis.

Nearly 1,300 checks and 115 fines in the North

After having intercepted the smokers, the police director returns to the charge: "Potentially, there will be a lot of verbalizations this evening, the reasons for being outside being rather restricted", he advances.

During the last confinement, Jean-François Papineau recognizes that the checks of certificates had been reduced to their minimum portion, in particular because of the many reasons which allowed people to be away from their homes.

"Our work was then focused on the manifest violations of barrier gestures, such as the regrouping of people or the non-wearing of a mask", he concedes.

For the curfew, it will be much simpler, since, overall, you can only circulate between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for work, for health reasons, or to walk your pet.

"We saw that it did not work with a turtle, so there may be an increase in sales of dogs", quips the commissioner.

During this first night, 53 people were fined in Lille out of a total of 280 checks.

At the level of the department, 115 fines were drawn up for 1,261 people checked.
