Hahn (dpa) - Hahn Hunsrück Airport also booked far fewer passengers and significantly more freight in Corona December 2020.

The number of passengers fell compared to December 2019 by 80.6 percent to 16 172, as the Association of German Commercial Airports (ADV) announced on Friday.

The freight business, on the other hand, increased by 53.2 percent to 23,186 tons.

The ADV stated with a view to the passenger business at German airports: "The tightened lockdown from the middle of December, combined with the political request to refrain from unnecessary travel during the Christmas holidays, depresses the already low demand."

The start of the new year does not change the trend for the time being.

The German air freight business, on the other hand, picked up very significantly in December, according to ADV: "The reasons are the stabilizing trade flows and the Christmas business, especially in online trading."

Hahn Airport also has a coveted night flight permit.

Only four other larger German airports also have one.

In addition, the airport benefits from cargo that would have been flown as an additional load on passenger flights before Corona.
