Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Due to the unclear development of the corona pandemic, many people are currently holding back from implementing their vacation plans.

The managing director of the Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH, Stefan Zindler, is convinced that the hospitality industry will do everything to make it easier for holidaymakers to make a decision in favor of a stay between the Eifel and the Palatinate Forest.

"Many tourism companies in Rhineland-Palatinate have shown themselves to be very accommodating in the past year and have accommodated their guests with flexibility in cancellation questions," he told the German press agency.

«I recommend that those wishing to travel just ask if they are unsure.

I believe that many companies will be accommodating this year too, simply because everyone is looking forward to welcoming guests again. "

The entire tourism industry in Rhineland-Palatinate is hard hit by the travel restrictions and overnight bans caused by the corona pandemic.

“A year like 2020 cannot repeat itself,” says Zindler.

The decline affects the companies to different degrees.

The hotel industry in particular is suffering.

“This is especially true in the current situation.

The hotels are usually quite well booked in autumn and winter with meetings and business trips.

This deal has now failed, which is a major setback, ”he explains.

The youth hostels have also been hit hard, as their core business is group travel, which is also currently not possible.

According to him, overnight stays in holiday apartments and houses and the camping area went well.

“But even they cannot be called winners.

They all ran into deficits - some more, some less, ”he said.

Therefore, it is now time that the money now really flows with the announced federal aid for the industry.

Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH (RPT) is the tourism management and marketing organization for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
