Some DAX companies have their own investment arm: Allianz, E.on, Daimler and now Delivery Hero.

The Berlin restaurant portal wants to support start-ups themselves with venture capital in the future, as the company announced.

50 million euros are initially available for DX Ventures.

The fund invests not only in young food companies, but also in on-demand services such as mobility solutions and online supermarkets, sustainable innovations, artificial intelligence, fintechs and logistics companies.

But is that the right decision?

Delivery Hero also attaches importance to the fact that the start-ups are still managed by the founders, according to a statement.

On top of that, DX Ventures decides independently of Delivery Hero and boss Niklas Östberg.

The fund is managed by Duncan McIntyre, a longtime finance and strategy manager of the food delivery service.

"Investing in entrepreneurship has always been an important part of our success story," McIntyre said.

"We know what opportunities and challenges start-ups face because we have had exactly these experiences ourselves."

In the past, Delivery Hero claims to have spent more than 500 million euros on minority stakes, for example for the Beyond Meat competitor Impossible Foods, the compostable tableware from Bio-lutions from Hamburg and the Hamburg apple straw start-up Wisefood.

The team that previously handled the deals is now at DX Ventures.
