Oberhaching (dpa) - The sports director of the German Tennis Federation, Klaus Eberhard, can imagine Boris Becker returning to the association as president.

"Basically, I could imagine Boris as DTB President, but that's not currently an issue," said Eberhard on Tuesday in an online press conference of the Bavarian Tennis Association.

Becker had announced his retirement as head of men's tennis at the DTB at the end of November.

In the future, he will no longer have the time to complete the task according to his ideas.

However, the three-time Wimbledon winner had also stated that he could imagine, "if my time allows, then to take on an even bigger task at the DTB, if the opportunity arises."

Ulrich Klaus is currently DTB President and plans to run again at the end of January 2021.

According to Eberhard, Becker's withdrawal came “somewhat surprising”.

"It was a big gain," said Eberhard.

Michael Kohlmann will take over Becker's tasks in the future.

Both were last jointly responsible for the Davis Cup team.

“We currently have to deal with it and we will,” said Eberhard about Becker's withdrawal.
