A council of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry was held to discuss the medium- to long-term energy policy of the country, and multiple assumptions were made regarding the proportion of renewable energy and the outlook for electricity demand toward the realization of a carbon-free society in 2050. , It was decided to deepen the discussion further.

The "Comprehensive Resources and Energy Study Group", which discusses the country's medium- to long-term energy policy, aims to achieve the government's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 as a whole. It is shown as a guideline for deepening discussions in the future to increase the ratio of the above from 50% to 60%.

At the meeting on the 27th, it was confirmed that more than one assumption would be made.

Specifically, in addition to raising the ratio of renewable energy to 100% and making it wider than the current standard, the digitalization of society is progressing in terms of electricity demand, and if it increases significantly or conversely, energy saving will progress. We are also considering cases where demand will decrease.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will ask research institutes to analyze the costs and technical issues of achieving these assumptions, and will further deepen the discussion.
