Stuttgart (dpa) - The effects of the microchip shortage on sales at the car manufacturer Daimler cannot yet be foreseen specifically, according to sales director Britta Seeger.

January is well covered.

What consequences could arise for customers in February and March are trying to determine internally and in discussions with suppliers, said Seeger on Wednesday in a conference call with journalists.

However, she is confident that the problems can be solved together with the suppliers and that the effects can be kept as low as possible.

Supply bottlenecks for semiconductors are currently putting many car manufacturers under pressure and forcing them to cut back on production.

At Daimler, the Mercedes plants in Rastatt and Bremen as well as in Kecskemét, Hungary, are affected.

Seeger presented the new electric compact SUV EQA on Wednesday, which will be available for purchase from the beginning of February.

It is the third all-electric vehicle from the Mercedes EQ series.

Three more, including the flagship EQS, are to follow in the course of the year.

The EQA has been built in Rastatt for some time and from this year also in Beijing.

With a view to the lack of chips, Seeger emphasized again that the start-up of the EQ models had the highest priority.
