Covid-19: West of Paris, Chambourcy facing the threat of variants

A dozen cases of the South African and Brazilian variants of Covid-19 have been detected in Chambourcy, a small town in Yvelines of nearly 6,000 inhabitants, 30 km west of Paris.

Responding to the appeal launched by their mayor, the Camboricians came in large numbers this Saturday, February 27 at the Georges Gallienne gymnasium.

Screening tents separated by partitions, a large waiting room and a reception area have been set up there.
Mireille Billet, from the Regional Health Agency (ARS), takes care of the reception.

In mid-February, six adults working in a nursery school in this town of Yvelines, as well as seven children, tested positive for the South African and Brazilian variant of the coronavirus.
Faced with this “beginner cluster”, Mayor Pierre Morange informed residents via Facebook of the closure from March 1 to 5 of nursery schools, elementary schools and Chambourcy college, welcoming a little less than 1,200 students in total.
After two weeks of vacation, these establishments will not reopen on Monday.

We are living this situation with fear in our stomachs,
" says a lady suffering from diabetes, who came to be tested with her 12-year-old son.
With 1,400 tests available over the weekend for 5,800 inhabitants, the town hall especially invites parents of students and their children over 6 to be screened.

involvement
” of the inhabitants.
The results of the screening, expected next Tuesday, should make it possible "
to see it sufficiently clear
" to decide on an extension of the closure or reopening of schools in Chambourcy, said the mayor.
In France, the South African and Brazilian variants represent 5.6% of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, according to Public Health France.
