Hamm (dpa / lnw) - Four people were injured in a basement fire in Hamm.

As the police announced on Sunday, the fire had spread quickly during the night in the apartment building in the Bockum-Hövel district and blocked the stairwell.

The fire brigade brought eight residents, including three children, to safety from outside with a rescue cage.

Three other residents get outside themselves.

Four people had to stay in the hospital on suspicion of smoke poisoning.

At first it was not known what caused the fire in the cellar.

There was also no information on the amount of damage.
