The government opposed the takeover of Carrefour by the Canadian group Couche-Tard, in the name of strengthening the “food security” of the French.

There will be no immediate rapprochement between Carrefour and Couche-Tard: the two groups have taken note of the French government's veto but are now studying "opportunities for operational partnerships".
Wednesday evening, Bruno Le Maire had indicated that he was "a priori not favorable" to such an operation and recalled that a recent decree made it possible to block it.
On Europe 1, Sunday, Gérard Larcher reacted to this rejection defended by the entire government and defended this position hostile to this takeover.

"I think that, in the current situation, including in the political situation in our country, the reaction of the Minister of the Economy and Finance, I share it", he said.
