In detail, the CEO of "Majid Al Futtaim Retail", the operator of the "Carrefour" chain of stores, Hany Weiss, said that the company is currently working on expanded plans to increase sales of local farm products in Carrefour outlets, through multiple paths, including raising the sales of those The farms will reach 20% of the total sales of their outlets of vegetables and fruits at the end of 2021, and increased dealing with local farms, through a platform dedicated to farmers, which allows displaying their products in Carrefour outlets without fees, and collecting products in central areas, and preparing them for distribution to branches Sales outlets in the country.

Weiss confirmed that Majid Al Futtaim Retail intends to reach more than 6000 farmers, in support of a cooperation agreement signed recently with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, to enhance the availability of locally grown products in Carrefour stores, through new distribution channels.

He revealed that the company will look for new means to support local farm products, by studying the opportunities for supplying surplus products to "Carrefour" outlets that the company operates in the markets of the Gulf countries or in the Middle East region in general.

He pointed out that supporting local farm products such as vegetables and fruits, raising the percentage of sales of these products in Carrefour outlets from 5% in 2019 to 15% in 2020.

Weiss said that Majid Al Futtaim Retail is also working to raise the rates of dealing with the supplies of local small and medium companies, through a platform dedicated to the supply of these companies, and special treatment with preferences compared to the large importing companies, by granting them reductions of 50% of the display fees in outlets Carrefour », while fulfilling the safety and quality requirements, and supplying products that cope with the needs of the markets and consumers’ requirements, stressing that the company aims to deal with 40 small and medium-sized companies importing during the current year.

Weiss revealed that the company intends, during the current and next years, to expand the provision of blockchain systems on a large number of fresh food products in Carrefour outlets, through the QR code feature, which allows consumers through smart phones to know all Data on fresh food commodities at all stages of production.

He added that the system for tracking the stages of food production through blockchain technology easily clarifies to consumers the sources of breeding, the type of food provided for poultry, the method of slaughtering, its location, and the halal certificates documented for these products.

He emphasized that the company had recently started applying this to 17 fresh chicken products bearing the "Carrefour" brand, and it intends to reach 21 poultry products during the coming period.

He pointed out that the plans to expand the use of blockchain technologies on food products will include, in the coming period, about 17 paper products from the company's aquatic farms in the country, pointing out that the company has recently started the first of six farms.
