The German multinational
Bosch
has communicated to the works council its intention to close the plant in
Lliçà d'Amunt (Barcelona)
, which would leave
336 employees
without work
, as confirmed by the company to Europa Press this Thursday.
This closure would be added to that of the Castellet i la Gornal plant (Barcelona), announced in September and scheduled for November 2021, affecting 300 workers.
Company sources have also confirmed that the production of the Catalan plant will be transferred to the one it has in Wroclaw (Poland), in what UGT FICA has considered an "unmitigated relocation".
Although there is not yet a defined schedule, Bosch's intention is to
formalize the closure "as soon as possible"
during this year as it has not found alternative products to ensure the competitiveness of the plant.
Bosch sources have explained that the plant in Poland "is larger", which makes it more profitable and competitive and have justified the closure of the Catalan plant due to the
drop in market demand for conventional
vacuum
brake
boosters due to the increase in use of electromechanical servo brakes.
Furthermore, according to the company, this market "is exposed to intense competition", which is why it has decided to adapt its production capacities.
The secretary of the Auto sector of UGT of Catalonia,
Yolanda Funes
, has assured Europa Press that the company has justified the closure "for economic reasons that
in Poland it is more profitable to produce"
due to the price of labor.
Anyway, Funes highlighted that this closure "is a
consequence of the industrial policy in Catalonia"
in recent years and has stressed that the administrations do not realize that the automotive sector is leaving.
According to the union's calculations, in addition to the 336 professionals at the plant, the closure would affect some 900 more people among auxiliary companies and suppliers.
