Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Eintracht Frankfurt's sports director Fredi Bobic sees the upcoming pan-European football championship this summer very critically.

“It is an illusion that a European Football Championship will take place in twelve different European countries in June 2021.

And it would also be the completely wrong signal due to the corona pandemic, ”said Bobic to the online portal t-online.de.

Previously, the former national coach Berti Vogts appealed to UEFA to postpone the EM due to the Corona crisis.

Former striker Bobic sees it similarly.

«Normally the EM would have to be postponed again.

But that will not happen, ”said the 49-year-old about the tournament, which will be played in twelve European cities from June 11th to July 11th.

But the tightly timed appointment calendar offers no chance for a postponement, as Bobic admitted.

Instead, the Eintracht boss suggested an "interim solution" with a maximum of two to three host countries.

"It is important that UEFA react as quickly as possible," said Bobic.

The latest status from the European Football Union was that on March 5 a “definitive regulation” should be made as to how many spectators at the venues are allowed to enter the individual EM stadiums.

Association boss Aleksander Ceferin prefers the variant with twelve countries, but indicated that he could also imagine other scenarios.
