The United States bombed alleged pro-Iranian militia positions in Syria on Thursday, the
first attack ordered by President
Joe Biden since coming to power, the Pentagon reported.
"Under instructions from President Biden, US military forces tonight carried out air strikes against infrastructure used by Iranian-backed militant groups in eastern Syria," Washington said in a statement.
"This offensive was authorized
in response to recent attacks on US
and Coalition
personnel
in Iraq, and continued threats to those personnel," said spokesman John Kirby.
