Berlin (AP) - In the debate about the Summer Games in Tokyo, the Athletes Germany Association has increased the pressure on the Olympic organizers and the sports associations with a list of demands.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the world federations must "quickly and convincingly demonstrate how qualifying tournaments and, last but not least, the Olympic and Paralympic Games can take place safely," said an eight-page position paper published by the advocacy group.

In it, Athletes Germany urges greater transparency in the Corona measures, greater involvement of athletes in the planning of hygiene and safety concepts, and a social discussion about timely vaccinations for Olympians.

In addition, liability issues would have to be regulated more clearly so that the athletes do not bear the sole risk of participating in competitions and traveling to Japan.

“Overall, it is unlikely that infections can be completely avoided.

The IOC must therefore communicate transparently under which conditions the games can take place and under which not, ”the paper says.
