The Institut Pasteur de Lille has tested more than 2,000 molecules to find an effective treatment against the coronavirus and is now relying on an already existing antibiotic, octophene.

A clinical trial should be launched in the coming weeks, assures Xavier Nassif, director of the institute.

INTERVIEW

It is a hope for the fight against the coronavirus.

After having tested more than 2,000 molecules, the Institut Pasteur de Lille could finally have found an effective treatment to treat Covid-19.

This is an existing drug, octofen, previously prescribed to treat nasopharyngitis.

"It could be promising," says Xavier Nassif, director of the Pasteur Institute in Lille, guest of Europe 1 on Friday morning.

A clinical trial should be launched between the end of April and the beginning of May.

"It's going to take place, it's a matter of weeks."
