Trier (dpa / lrs) - During the rampage in Trier on December 1, 2020, many people were also traumatized.

"We currently have around 300 people who are mentally injured," said Mayor Wolfram Leibe (SPD) in the city council on Wednesday.

"Experiences from other cities with such acts also say that many only realize with a delay after many months that they are psychologically injured."

In the act, five people were killed and 24 people injured.

A gunman had raced through the pedestrian zone with his sports vehicle and targeted people.

The 51-year-old alleged perpetrator is in custody and has not yet given any information about the motive.

Leibe said that the solidarity of Trier and the neighbors was impressive after the fact.

Funds totaling around one million euros were received from around 10,200 donors.

A foundation will be set up to distribute the money to the various groups of victims.

A part has already been paid as emergency aid to relatives of those killed.
