Berlin (dpa) - The German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) has called for a structural change in response to the case of trainer Gabriele Frehse.
At a hearing before the sports committee of the German Bundestag, DTB President Alfons Hölzl proposed on Wednesday in Berlin that coaches should in future be employed by the top sports associations instead of at the Olympic bases.
“That is a very specific point that we can learn from the current situation.
That you don't have to march around the corner and that it is easier to make and implement decisions, ”said Hölzl afterwards to the German Press Agency.
The Chemnitz trainer Frehse is accused of psychological violence against gymnasts.
She is employed by the Olympic base in Saxony and is currently suspended.
After the allegations became known, the DTB demanded her dismissal.
"Today's meeting did not aim to clear up the allegations about Ms. Frehse or to clarify labor law issues," said the committee chairwoman Dagmar Freitag (SPD) of the dpa.
After an investigation by a Frankfurt law firm, the DTB had found “serious breaches of duty” by Frehse.
Ex-world champion Pauline Schäfer and other gymnasts had accused Frehse of harassing her in training, administering medication without a doctor's prescription and not allowing any objection.
Frehse has denied the allegations several times and accused the DTB of denying her access to the files.
The Chemnitz public prosecutor's office has been investigating the trainer and a doctor since December 2020 on suspicion of bodily harm.

Furthermore, the DTB would like the special squad for injured athletes that was abolished in the course of the competitive sports reform to be reintroduced.
In addition, Hölzl has proposed to expand the number of federal training centers for gymnastics under regional aspects so that young athletes in particular can be at home more often and longer.
At the same time, the DTB President emphasized that violence has no place in sport.
«We reject any training with the use of violence of any form, physical, psychological or sexual violence.
We focus on the best interests of the child.
We must therefore organize the training in such a way that violence has no chance, ”said Hölzl.
