Dresden (dpa / sn) - The AfD parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament does not rule out a committee of inquiry into the government's corona management.
"Depending on how the corona crisis develops and what decisions the government makes, a committee of inquiry can become a suitable instrument of parliamentary control," said party and parliamentary group leader Jörg Urban on Friday at the German press agency in Dresden.
At the current time, however, they want to wait for the outcome of the numerous lawsuits against the state government's corona policy: "At the same time, we are calling for the lockdown to be ended quickly."
According to the constitution, the state parliament has to set up a committee of inquiry if one fifth of the members support it.
The AfD has the necessary number of votes with 38 seats in the 119 seat state parliament.
In the Brandenburg state parliament, a corona investigation committee into the state government's crisis policy began to question witnesses.
State Secretary for Health Michael Ranft (independent) was the first witness as head of the Corona crisis team.
At the request of the AfD parliamentary group, the state parliament in Potsdam decided on such a U-Committee in September 2020.
