About 10:27 pm today (4th) our time, an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 occurred in the 238km sea area northeast of Gisborne, New Zealand.

The epicenter is 37.80 degrees south latitude and 179.50 degrees west longitude, and the earthquake occurrence depth is 10 km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warns that dangerous tsunamis could occur within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.

New Zealand's National Disaster Prevention Agency has warned that residents near the coast do not stay at home, evacuate to tsunami evacuation zones or inland as much as possible, and move to the nearest high ground in areas with strong vibrations that make it impossible to stand up.
