Bonn (dpa / lnw) - After the robbery of 800 fruit and vegetable boxes, the trial against two defendants for robbery theft begins today in the Bonn district court.

The two 23 and 24-year-old men are also charged with dangerous bodily harm, interference with road traffic and fleeing accidents.

They are said to have stolen the boxes from the premises of a supermarket in Meckenheim with three unknown accomplices.

According to the prosecution, a truck driver watched as they loaded the stackable boxes into vans and raised the alarm among his colleagues.

In order to cut off the escape route for the thieves, three truck drivers surrounded the two vans of the alleged perpetrators with their trucks.

Nevertheless, the defendants are said to have managed to break through a gap in the cordon with their vehicles.

A supermarket employee was hit by the exterior mirror of a van and injured.

The police were able to confiscate the escape vehicles on the day of the incident.

However, the boxes worth around 2400 euros had already disappeared.
