A man in his 50s was caught by the police, who falsely reported to the police that he was defecting by introducing himself as a spy from North Korea.
Today (5th), the Seoul Jungnang Police Department said that it is investigating a 58-year-old man A, who has made a false report stating that he is returning to the country and wasted the police force by applying a false report charge under the Minor Crimes Penalty Act.
Mr. A drove a car in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do at around 6:30 pm on the 2nd, and reported to the police that he was a spy who passed away from North Korea last year, and he is returning.
The man drove to Seoul via Paldang, Namyangju, and the police arrested the man near his home in Jungnang-gu, Seoul that evening after location tracking.
It is reported that many of the police in jurisdictions, including the South Gyeonggi and Northern Police Agency and Seoul Police Agency, were mobilized because the man moved to various areas.
A police official said, "Basically, the charges have been acknowledged, but detailed investigations have not been conducted yet."
