Domestic shipments of white goods fell 6.2% from the same month last year, marking the second consecutive month of decline. Industry groups say this is due to factors such as a decline in consumer confidence against the backdrop of rising product prices.
According to the Japan Electrical Manufacturers Association, domestic shipments of white goods such as air conditioners and washing machines last month were 1972.6 billion yen, down 2.2% from the same month last year and the second consecutive month of decline.
Of this
, the shipment value of washing machines was 288.15 billion yen, down 1.618% compared to the same month last year, and
the shipment value of air conditioners was 4.1 billion yen, down 34.5%.
This is mainly due to the rebound from last year's high levels of shipments after the lockdown in Shanghai, as well as a decline in consumer appetite to purchase white goods due to rising product prices.
On the other hand, electric shavers and hair dryers increased by 13.5%
and <>.<>%
from last year, which seems to be leading to the
purchase of grooming products as people go out more often.
According to the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association, "The trend of consumer spending shifting to consumption of services such as travel is expected to continue, and this will continue to affect shipment value."
