Zhaotong, Yunnan, September 9 (Zhongxin Net) -- On the Jinsha River channel at the junction of Ningnan County and Qiaojia County in Yunnan Province, lies the Baihetan Hydropower Station, which is the world's most technically difficult, the largest stand-alone capacity and the world's second largest installed capacity.
This hydropower station, known as the "Everest" of the hydropower industry, not only leads the world's hydropower into the million-kilowatt era, but also makes the Jinsha River reservoir area renewed.
"Many world firsts"
On the top cover of the million-kilowatt generator set in operation, can a coin be steadily erected?
At the Baihetan Hydropower Station, such a picture of smooth operation happens every day. Behind this is China's leading hydropower technology.

"Baihetan Hydropower Station has installed 16 of the world's largest hydroelectric generator sets, with a single capacity of 100 million kilowatts. A single unit is 50 meters high, weighs more than 8000,100 tons, and emits 400 million kWh of electricity in one hour of operation, which can meet the electricity consumption of a family for 111 years. The unit is running at <> revolutions per minute, but it is very smooth, and the overall swing is less than a hair strand. ”
Kang Yonglin, deputy director of the Baihetan Project Construction Department of Three Gorges Group, told reporters that the million-kilowatt generator set that has achieved 100% localization shows that China has "far ahead of other countries" in the field of hydropower technology.

Looking at the world, there is no precedent for million-kilowatt units, and China's "intelligent manufacturing" has led the world's hydropower into the million-kilowatt era.
Before the construction of the Three Gorges Project, the design and manufacturing level of China's hydropower units stayed at 30,30 kilowatts. At that time, China's technology in this field was at least 21 years behind that of developed countries. On the basis of scientific and technological innovation of the Three Gorges Project, by the time the 10,77-kilowatt units of Xiluodu Hydropower Station and the 80,100-kilowatt units of Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station were completed and put into operation in the first decade of the <>st century, the dream of <> million kilowatts of domestically produced units was getting closer and closer.
From "following and running" to "running along" to "leading", the design and manufacturing level of localized units of major hydropower equipment continues to set new records.
Zhou Mengxia, deputy director of the technical management department of the Baihetan Engineering Construction Department of Three Gorges Group, bluntly said that one million units mean that China's hydropower major equipment manufacturing capacity has surpassed its world counterparts and entered a "no-man's land". If you take this unit apart, almost every part and every individual item is the world's first.
And this is only some of the many "world firsts" of Baihetan Hydropower Station. In addition to the million-kilowatt generator set, Baihetan Hydropower Station also has the world's largest underground cavern group, the world's largest pressureless flood discharge cave group, and the world's largest cylindrical tailwater pressure regulating chamber; The application of low-heat cement concrete in the whole dam of Baihetan Dam is the first time in the world that low-heat cement concrete is used in the whole dam; The seismic parameters of the 300-meter high arch dam are also ranked first in the world.

The world's largest clean energy corridor with significant comprehensive benefits
Baihetan Hydropower Station has not only set a new record, but also changed the surrounding natural environment.
"The Jinsha River is located in a hot and dry river valley, and there was no vegetation on the mountains in the past, all of them were barren and bare." According to Zhang Ge, director of Baihetan Power Plant, after the construction of Baihetan Hydropower Station, the changes in the surrounding small environment have effectively improved the local ecological environment.
Today, the upstream of Baihetan Hydropower Station is Gaoxia Ping Lake, with green grass on both sides.
Zhou Mengxia gave this set of data: "Before the construction of [Baihetan Hydropower Station], the hot and dry valleys of the Jinsha River were all moderate and severe soil erosion areas, with an annual soil erosion of 2000,3000-500,<> tons per hectare. After treatment, the annual soil erosion rate per hectare in the hydropower station hub area is less than <> tons. ”

At the same time, the megawatt units of hydropower plants have brought huge emission reduction benefits.
The average annual power generation of Baihetan Hydropower Station is about 624.1968 billion kWh, which is equivalent to saving 5160.17 million tons of standard coal per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by <>.<> million tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by <>,<> tons.
On December 2022, 12, the last unit of Baihetan Hydropower Station completed 20-hour trial operation and was officially put into operation. So far, all 72 million-kilowatt hydroelectric generator sets of Baihetan Hydropower Station have been put into operation.
This marks the completion of the world's largest clean energy corridor on the Yangtze River.
The world's largest clean energy corridor consists of six giant cascade hydropower stations built and operated by the Three Gorges Corporation in the main stream of the Yangtze River. Six hydropower stations, including Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, on the main stream of the Yangtze River, form the world's largest clean energy corridor spanning 6,6 kilometers. The 1800 hydropower units in this corridor, with a total installed capacity of 110.7169 million kilowatts, produce an average annual electricity of about 5 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the annual electricity needs of 3000 million people.
The joint dispatch and coordinated operation of the six giant power stations will generate an average of 6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, saving about 3000.9045 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 2 million tons per year.
Zhang Chaoran, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and adviser to the Science and Technology Committee of China Three Gorges Corporation, once wrote that through the joint dispatch of cascade power stations in the river basin, not only the efficiency of power generation has been expanded, "one drop of water generates six times electricity", but also will better play the functions of hydropower stations such as flood control, shipping, ecological protection, and comprehensive utilization of water resources.

The Jinsha River reservoir area has undergone great changes in a thousand years
"The golden sands have not been accessible since ancient times, and the water is urgent and the sky is high."
For thousands of years, traffic congestion has been one of the reasons for the sluggish economic development of the areas along the Jinsha River. The construction of water conservancy facilities has changed the travel conditions of local people.
According to the data, after the completion of the Baihetan Hydropower Station, the total length of the four cascade reservoirs in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River is about 612 kilometers in the perennial backwater area, and after the implementation of the dam overturning transfer facility, the upstream and downstream water transport channels of the whole section of the "Panzhihua-Shuifu" can be connected through water and land combined transportation, creating conditions for the construction of a comprehensive three-dimensional transportation corridor.

At the same time, during the dry period, the world's largest clean energy corridor has cumulatively replenished more than 340 billion cubic meters of water downstream, increased the shipping water depth in the middle and lower reaches by 0.9 meters, improved the navigation conditions of the "golden waterway" of the main stream of the Yangtze River, and effectively guaranteed the downstream water demand for spring plowing and production and domestic life.
The Baihetan Hydropower Station has not only improved the infrastructure conditions such as transportation and communications in the surrounding area, but also added about 8,<> jobs during the peak period of hydropower station construction.
People who used to live by the water have also moved into new homes because of the construction of Baihetan.

The people of Qiaojia County, which is close to the Baihetan Hydropower Station, are deeply touched. Tan Zaiming, deputy director of the Qiaojia County Hydropower Immigration Service Center, sighed: "If it were not for the Baihetan Hydropower Station, Qiaojia would not have developed into what it is now in another 20 years. ”
Liu Can, deputy director of the Immigration Office of China Three Gorges Group, said that the Baihetan Hydropower Station completed its relocation in March 2021. After the relocation, the new local settlements have achieved full coverage of water, electricity, roads, communications, radio, television, sewage and garbage treatment facilities, and schools, health centers and other facilities are in place.
Before the relocation, the local people generally lived in houses with civil, concrete and brick structures, and after the relocation, they were basically improved to frame or brick-concrete houses, and the newly built houses were also designed in accordance with the latest seismic grade requirements. Taking Baihetan as an example, before the relocation, 54% of the migrant houses in the reservoir area were mixed soil and civil structure houses, while in the resettlement site, the newly built migrant houses were basically frame and frame cut structures. The original low-rise earthen houses and brick houses have become "past tense", and the area of newly built migrant houses in the reservoir area is 613.65 million square meters, and the per capita housing construction area reaches 1 square meters per person; On the Yunnan side, there are many small high-rise houses, and the average house reached 3.<> sets per household.
Wan Jixiang, who has led the villagers to relocate for three years, told reporters that everyone's lives have changed steadily. "It used to take hours to walk to buy something, but now there are markets and shops on the street."
In his Wangjiang community, there are 24 resettlement houses, 1511,1500 sets, 3919,<> migrant households, and <>,<> people. (End)
