Preliminary proceedings for trial were held on the 10th over a lawsuit filed against Nissan and others seeking payment of more than $18 billion filed by former Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Chairman Carlos Ghosn, who was charged with violating the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act in Japan, alleging that he was defamed.

Ghosn, the former chairman of Nissan Motor Co., fled to Lebanon on a private jet in 2019 while out on bail after being charged with violating the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act by understating his compensation in securities reports while in office.

Former Chairman Ghosn has filed a lawsuit in Lebanon demanding payment of more than $10 billion to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and several related parties in terms of more than $1470 billion, or more than 18 billion yen in Japan yen, alleging that his arrest and prosecution were defamated by claiming that his arrest and prosecution were orchestrated by a conspiracy between Japan prosecutors and Nissan.

According to the local judicial authorities, on the 3th, lawyers from both sides attended the preliminary proceedings for the trial in the capital Beirut.

Three years ago, Nissan Motor Co. filed a lawsuit against former Chairman Ghosn, seeking approximately 100 billion yen in damages, alleging that he had caused damage to the company.
