Stuttgart is losing another star in its cityscape: this time it hits the big Mercedes star on the roof of the carmaker's former corporate headquarters, which is to be dismantled from next week. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the company on request. This is because the site is no longer a company location. Most of the Group's employees work at the Group's headquarters in Untertürkheim and on the campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen.
The headquarters of Daimler-Benz AG in Möhringen was completed in 1989. The star has a diameter of 6.5 meters and, after being exposed to the weather for more than three decades, is not suitable for any further use, according to the company.
In the spring of 2021, the Mercedes star on the station tower had already been removed. The landmark of the state capital was temporarily moved to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Bad Cannstatt due to construction work for the Stuttgart 21 railway project and is to return to the then renovated tower in 2025.
