The number of German car dealers will almost halve to around 2030 companies by 3800. This is reported by the magazine »Automobilwoche«, citing the Institute for the Automotive Industry (IfA). One reason for this is the trend towards online and direct sales.

"The efforts of manufacturers and importers to implement direct and online sales models will lead to a further streamlining of dealer and service networks – and thus continue to drive consolidation dynamically," the paper quoted IfA Director Stefan Reindl as saying.

According to the report, the number of independent car dealership companies has already fallen by around two-thirds to 6700 in 2022 over the past two decades. For customers, this often means that they have to put up with long waiting times for repairs or service appointments.
