While the Iranian government multiplies actions against women who do not wear the Islamic veil, some Iranian women still persist and refuse the accessory. Public images of women without veils are multiplying, a change since the beginning of the protest movement after the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022.

Legal action has been filed against two famous Iranian actresses, including Fatemah Motamed-Aria, who appeared without the Islamic veil in a public ceremony. In recent weeks, several restaurants, cafes and shopping malls have been closed across the country for non-compliance with the Islamic veil by customers or employees.

Despite these measures, more and more girls and women without veils are seen on the streets of Tehran, but also in provincial cities, including small towns. In Tehran, you can come across young women with trousers and a simple shirt. Some are in short sleeves. Cafes and restaurants are also filled with unveiled women. A notable development, including compared to a month ago.

In the streets, we meet several types of women: those who wear a chador, those who have a tight headscarf, those who have a loose headscarf, and finally those who are without a veil. Obviously, despite the measures taken in recent weeks, the government is unable to enforce the veil by those who refuse to wear the hijab.
