The tariff shield on electricity, set up by the French government since October 2021 to limit bill increases, will be maintained for another two years, Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire announced Friday on LCI.

"I give us two years, by early 2025, to get out of the shield on electricity," because tariffs remain "very high" compared to the pre-crisis situation, he said. On the other hand, he believes that the extension of the gas tariff shield, in place until the end of this year, is no longer justified because natural gas prices have fallen significantly since the peaks of 2022.*
