The operating company of Sushiro, a major rotating sushi chain headquartered in Osaka, will provide used oil from stores to produce SAF, an alternative fuel for aircraft made from waste cooking oil.

This initiative is carried out by FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES, the operator of SUSHIRO, in cooperation with JGC Holdings, a major plant manufacturer.

After collecting oil after cooking tempura and other deep-fried foods at approximately 680 rotating sushi shops and izakayas operated by this company, we will manufacture SAF at an oil refinery built by a company established by JGC and other companies in Sakai City, Osaka.

According to each company, the production of SAF is expected to be about 75,80 liters per year, and we would like to provide it mainly to domestic airlines.

SAF, which is made from waste cooking oil, is said to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 2030% compared to conventional fossil-derived fuels, and the government has set a goal of replacing 10% of the fuel used by domestic airlines with SAF by <>.

Mayumi Hayashi, the operator of Sushiro, said, "We believe that climate change is a management risk when dealing with marine resources such as fish, and we would like to contribute to the realization of a recycling-oriented society through the provision of oil."
