(Focus on Boao) How can China's modernization benefit global development?

Boao, 3 Mar (ZXS) -- Chinese-style modernization is China's development path for the next few decades. How is the path of Chinese-style modernization different from that of Western-style modernization? How will it contribute to global development? The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 29 held a sub-forum on "Chinese-style modernization" on the 2023th, and the participants analyzed it.

On the road to modernization of human society, the first Western countries to complete the industrialization process are in the forefront, so "modernization" was once equated with "Westernization". However, China has embarked on a new path of modernization different from that of the West, showing a different picture of modernization.

Arroyo, director of the Boao Forum for Asia and former Philippine president, pointed out that Western-style modernization began with the industrial revolution and occurred simultaneously with colonial rule, and was a modernization by means of foreign expansion and plunder, and China, the Philippines and other Asian countries have suffered from it. "Chinese-style modernization emphasizes the concept of community and promotes global common prosperity through peaceful development."

Participants believed that the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank promoted by China in recent years are aimed at improving global development momentum, especially the development capacity of developing countries and emerging economies. China's emphasis on "commonality" in development can also be seen in the forum in front of it - as an important home diplomacy of China, the Boao Forum for Asia is also continuously contributing the "Boao Plan" to improving global governance and enhancing the well-being of people around the world through discussions at the annual meeting.

Martin Jacques, a senior researcher at the University of Cambridge, said that "Western-centrist" people's perception of modernization is single, believing that Western-style modernization is the only path to modernization, but in fact, Chinese-style modernization does not simply imitate and copy the West. "It has entered a phase of great innovation and is constantly providing the world with new ideas, new thinking and new goals."

At present, the international and regional development environment is complex and changeable, and the world economy is facing downward pressure. The outside world believes that Chinese-style modernization is actually a Chinese way to deal with the development problems faced by all countries in the world, and in the global change, Chinese-style modernization provides more possibilities for the pluralistic model of world modernization, especially the modernization path of late-developing countries.

For example, poverty eradication is a common challenge facing mankind, said Wang Wen, executive director of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Chinese Minmin University, which epitomizes the essence of Chinese-style modernization. According to statistics, over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, China's contribution rate to world poverty reduction has exceeded 70%, especially since the 1th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has historically solved the problem of absolute poverty that has plagued the Chinese nation for thousands of years, and nearly <> million rural poor people have all been lifted out of poverty. "China has provided the world with a very important new paradigm in agricultural and rural development and solving poverty problems."

Over the years, wealth has been unfairly distributed within Western countries, and the gap between the rich and the poor has widened. Jiang Zelin, former deputy secretary-general of the State Council of China, pointed out that common prosperity, which is the proper meaning of Chinese-style modernization, is to solve the problem of the gap between the rich and the poor. He said that China has embarked on a scientific and precise road of poverty alleviation, and "parallel" promoted new industrialization, informatization, urbanization and agricultural modernization, and such practical innovations provide a new exploration for breaking through the bottleneck of global development.

Chinese-style modernization has solved many difficult problems in the development of human society, and while breaking the myth of "modernization = Westernization", the dregs of the "China threat theory" have once again emerged. Arroyo pointed out that China's rise is an opportunity rather than a challenge, "like an anchor, which can anchor stable relations throughout the region, and China that is constantly exploring the road of modernization will not pose a threat."

As for the future development of the world's two largest economies, Martin Jacques believes that the United States must overcome the "self-centered" mindset, which cannot continue to enjoy global dominance, let alone dominate Asia, but must truly recognize that the attempt to isolate China to hinder China's rise cannot work, otherwise the decoupling and restructuring of supply chains is likely to lead to a significant slowdown in global economic growth.

"Chinese-style modernization is a new modernization model, which opens up many new possibilities for the future development of China itself and the whole world, and other countries, especially Western countries, should realize that the whole world can benefit from the process of Chinese-style modernization." Martin Jacques said. (End)
